In this episode, we dug into the latest fallout around Ocean Mining and Luke Dashjr’s departure as CTO, along with the broader controversy around BIP 110 and the so-called “LukeCoin” proof-of-work fork. We talked through why the messaging around that fork is so misleading, how term redefinition keeps confusing newer Bitcoiners, and why simply changing mining algorithms does not magically solve centralization. We also explored the technical choices behind the proposed proof-of-work change, why existing ASIC availability matters, and how these alt-fork experiments often reveal more about incentives and market structure than about any real path forward for Bitcoin.

We also spent time on the 256 Foundation’s latest work, including red-team analysis of closed-source mining firmware and why these opaque systems create serious operational and even grid-level risks. From there, we highlighted the upside of open-source firmware through Riot’s new solar-responsive mining product built on Mujina, which shows what becomes possible when miners can actually control their hardware. We wrapped with updates on the Buzz relay for agent-assisted collaboration, thoughts on making it easier for home miners to run their own low-cost nodes, and some early findings from reverse engineering a WhatsMiner M64 that suggest just how far manufacturers are going to lock users out of their own machines.
